CPV / Houston, TX / motions

Motions typed and translated, in Houston, Texas

A motion asks an office to look at a decision again. Deciding to file one, and deciding what goes in it, is legal work. Typing it and translating it is not, and that is exactly the part CPV Multiservices does.

We type, translate and organize the forms and documents you or your attorney have chosen. We do not choose a procedure, determine eligibility or represent you.

Fees

CPV fee

Price on request

Government filing fees are separate, set by the government, and paid to the agency. Check the current official fees before filing.

Who this is for

You or your attorney have decided to file a motion, and you need it typed properly, or translated between Spanish and English, or both. You already know which motion you are filing and what it will say.

What the fee covers

  • We type the motion from what you or your attorney give us, written or dictated, word for word. Your words stay your words.
  • We translate between Spanish and English, and we sign the certificate of accuracy that USCIS asks for on any document not in English.
  • We lay it out the way the form or the office asks, with your receipt number and your A number where they belong.
  • We print it, assemble it with the copies the office asks for, and hand you the packet.
  • We give you the filing address that matches your form and your carrier, read from the official page, with the date we read it.

What it does not cover

  • Choosing which motion to file. A motion to reopen and a motion to reconsider are not the same thing, and picking between them is a legal decision.
  • Filing. We do not file the motion for you: you, or your attorney, file it.
  • Deciding whether you should file anything at all.
  • Writing the legal argument, the grounds or the case law. What we type is your words or your attorney's, never ours.
  • Any opinion on your chances.
  • Any deadline. We do not calculate one, we do not confirm one and we do not guarantee one. Your deadline is written in the decision you received, and what it means for you is a legal question.
  • Legal advice. Claudia Perez Vila is a Texas commissioned notary public, not an attorney, and not an accredited representative.

Documents to bring

  • The text of the motion, written or dictated by you or your attorney
  • The decision letter you are responding to, every page
  • Your receipt number, and your A number if you have one
  • Any deadline that letter gives you, in writing

Bring the documents you already have. This is a preparation checklist, not a determination of eligibility or an exhaustive list of filing requirements. Follow the current official instructions for the form you or your attorney selected.

How this works

  1. 01

You bring the decision and the text

The decision you received, every page, and what you or your attorney want the motion to say. Written, or dictated to us at the appointment.

  2. 02

    We quote it

The price depends on the length and on whether translation is involved. We tell you the figure before we start, and we do not start until you accept it.

  3. 03

We type it and translate it

Word for word. If a sentence is unclear, we ask you what you meant. We do not fix it for you, because rewriting your reasons would not be typing any more.

  4. 04

You read it, then you take it

You read the finished document before anything is printed. You file it, or your attorney does. We hand you the packet and the filing address, and there our part ends.

Questions we get about motions

Can you tell me whether I should file a motion?

No, and anyone who answers that question for a fee without being an attorney is doing something Texas treats as a crime. Whether to file, and which motion, depends on what the decision says and on the law behind it. That is a lawyer's answer.

Can you write the reasons for me?

No. We write down your reasons, or your attorney's, exactly as you give them. The moment we start choosing arguments for you, it stops being typing and becomes practising law without a license.

Then what is it exactly that you do?

The mechanical half, and it is not nothing. Your text laid out correctly, in the right language, with a signed certificate of accuracy, your numbers in the right boxes, printed, assembled and addressed to the right lockbox. That is the half where people lose weeks over a formatting detail.

Is Claudia allowed to charge for this?

For typing and translation, yes, and the statute says so in as many words. Texas Government Code section 406.017(a-1): a person does not violate this section by offering or providing language translation or typing services and accepting compensation. That same section is why she does not do the rest.

I do not have an attorney. Can you still help?

We can type and translate whatever you decide to write yourself. We cannot help you decide what to write. If you want the name of a lawyer, the American Immigration Lawyers Association keeps a public directory at ailalawyer.com, and there are nonprofit organizations in Houston accredited to represent people.
